About the Cambrian Lines
In 1864 the Cambrian Railway Company (whose logo you can see above) was formed, managing a network of railway lines across Wales from Oswestry and Shrewsbury which at its peak reached around 300 miles of route. In 1924 the Great Western Railway assumed responsibility for the network, and of course since the 1960s and the infamous Beeching Report most of the former Cambrian railways have closed.
However, although maintained by Network Rail and operated by Arriva Trains Wales, the line from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth is still known as the Cambrian mainline, with the branch from Dovey Junction to Pwllheli being known as the Cambrian Coast line.
As the author of this weblog is a train driver on the routes just mentioned, it seemed appropriate to call the blog 'CambrianDriver'.
